The first time I read Lonesome Dove I became so engrossed in the world of the story and its characters that I wasn’t ready to leave them—and as soon as I finished I went back and started all over again. Larry McMurtry creates colorful, complicated characters who follow you around even after you have put the book down. Good story. Westerns aren't usually what I enjoy reading, but I'd seen the movie and then discovered that there was a book, so I read it. I actually liked reading the book better than watching the movie.
