A book by Lauren Lipton

Lipton's second effort (afterIt's About Your Husband) is a feast of standard genre fare redeemed by the author's wit. After a night of partying in Vegas, Peggy Adams wakes up married to a stranger. Her new husband is Luke Sedgwick, scion of an old Connecticut … see full wiki

To be clear when I first read the title for this I thought it was about the insect variety wasp, not the elite social circle WASP. I'm glad I read the info blurb on it however, since the insect variety of wasp does not interest me at all :)    This is apparently Lipton's second novel, but I haven't read the first (It's About Your Husband) so I can't be certain if her style improved or not. This was one of the most enjoyable mainstream chick lit books I've read in a while. The story is engaging, the characters likable, the situation familiar but not cliched. It's one of those books where you know what's going to happen at the end but you still enjoy the ride getting there. I am glad that I was not raised the way Luke had been. There's no way I could stand to live with all those unspoken rules and the expectation of having the feeling that you are better than everyone else. Seriously …

Once Great Aunt Abigail learns of the marriage, their separation plans are thwarted by her offer to sign over the family estate to them if they stay married for one year.    OK, so the plot falls nicely into …

I just finished reading Mating Rituals of the North American Wasp. This book reminded me of the movie "What Happens In Vegas". The main character's Peggy and Luke wake up one morning and realize that they married while drunk in Vegas. Peggy is the owner of a New York boutique and Luke is a Sedgwick, which means a huge house and land have fallen into his lap. It's not as glamorous as it sounds. The house Luke and his Great Aunt Abby inhabit is falling apart and Luke wants no part of his heritage. …
