Disturbing on a few levels...

I'm giving this three stars because I made the mistake of reading a few reviews on Amazon for this book to see if it was something I'd enjoy. I do that sometimes. I probably shouldn't have because someone included a spoiler and didn't warn us first. I hate that almost as much as those people that spend 2/3 of their review rehashing the plot. We can read that ourselves. Thanks. Now what did YOU think? Anyway, so I knew the ending going in and I think I spent too much time looking towards that ending.

It would be less than 3 stars. Not because of the story. The storyline and plot itself was actually really really well done. My problem is that the dialogue that came out of Carrie's mouth was no eight-year-old. I found it weird that the author chose to give her a more grown up voice even though she was so young. It didn't flow well because I kept getting distracted by the writing.

I never get the surprise endings, so I think if I hadn't have read the spoiler review, I would have been surprised at the end, but not enough that it would've been a five star book for me. I will say that the way it all ended up left me angered. I wanted more for them, not more of the same - it was kinda sad.
