Too absurd...even for satire! It drags on and on...
   When I read that Mercury Falls was about an irreverent, fallen angel named Mercury who was sent to earth to make preparations for Armageddon but was sidetracked by ping-pong, Krispy Treats and other earthly delights, about a reporter covering end-of-the-world cults and other such nonsense, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. "Mercury Falls" is a book about the Apocalypse, as executed by a large bureaucracy. Picture the Universe's oldest and largest organization of Civil (and Uncivil) Servants as it plots to begin the End of Times. Committees with laborious acronyms and four laptops named Pestilence, Famine, War, and Death bicker and backstab their way through some really wacky theology as Earth deteriorates, and a hack writer named Christine gets a really good deal on new linoleum for her breakfast nook.    There …

Publishers, and readers, love established authors; known characters and writing style, ready audience, great marketing. This year, however, I have "discovered" quite a few first time authors and have enjoyed every novel. Unique voices that bring new perspectives on a wide range of topics. When Robert Kroese offered a review copy of his self published debut novel, Mercury Falls, I accepted as I have had many great reads from first time authors. Kroese did not disappoint.       …
