Allman Brothers Biography

  • Feb 17, 2000
Pros: Full of facts and very entertaining!

Cons: Not long enough

Ever since I moved to Macon, all I hear about is the Allman Brothers, specifically Duane Allman. I really had no interest in them, I knew a song or two off the radio but that was about it. I ran across Midnight Riders at the local book store and picked it up. Boy what a surprise I got!

The book is the definitive biography on the Allman Brothers and the author does a really good job chronicling the early life of Duane and Greg growing up. The book was perfect for someone like myself who didn't know much about them personally or their music. I now feel that I'm an insider!

I even went so far as to map out the places where events took place in Macon, such as where Duane and Berry had their fatal bike crashes. "The Big House" is listed and of course the historic cemetary is described in detail. Even the mystery of "Elizabeth Reed" is described. Elizabeth Reed has a beautiful tombstone in the cemetary where band members liked to go and unwind.

The book is full of interesting facts about the band and their legend. A very good book on the Allman Brothers!
