Mr. Browne's Roses Emerges As A Discussion Piece About Race

  • Nov 27, 2010
Talking about race is never an easy thing, even for adults. Just imagine what it must be like for children to deal with the issue when they see those who are supposed to know better and teach them better struggling with it. In M. Beatryce Shaw's book MR. BROWNE'S ROSES we are given a perfect example of what happens when we make a difference in people based on the color of their skin.

Shaw also deals with an issue that is still taboo for some to even bring up, and that is the way that some of the same race treat others based on the degrees of color among them. Where did we learn that because something is bright or light that it is better than something darker or richer in color?

In the end the book demonstrates that we all thrive better when we are working together and appreciating each other for what we have to offer.

Kudos on a job well done and for a book that is destined to be a tool for parents and educators alike.
