Barto's new books of friendship and forgiveness strikes the perfect chord

We all know individuals that we have looked at as examples of what we want to be or what can be achieved---but we rarely give any thought as to what it took to get there. In his new book NICK, DONTAE, GUS & JACK, author Nigel Barto takes us into the lives of friends who have more that unites them than divides them, but they are sill at odds with who they are, what they want and what is rightfully theirs to have.

Though Barto has a curious way of expressing dialogue between the characters (no quotation marks to identify conversations), the story flows in a way that even if you can't completely relate to what the men and women you meet are experiencing, you can see why they react the way they do.

At the heart of the book to me is the message of friendship, forgiveness and ultimately acceptance. There are so many things in this world that are outside of our control, but when it comes to those around us and how we treat them and ourselves, those are all situations that we can influence.

I don't know if we will hear from some or all of these characters again, but I can tell you that getting to meet them through the book was a journey well worth taking.
