a book by Jerry Stahl
It didn't strike me first as something nice. Somehow, the title and the cover, gave me the feeling that it is a romance novel. I don't really like romance novels, so I intended to skip this book.
But after browing through the prologue. I was hooked right then. After I put down, I still went back the next day to buy it.
The story begins when 14 years old girl, Cynthia, woke up one morning and found out her entire family has disappeared. At first , she didn't know that they have 'disappeared', and she thought it was a punishment for the confrontation the night before, where she had a fight with the family after getting drunk. Back then, she was a troubled kid.
When she realized that her brother was not at the school as well, that's when she got panic. Her family has left her without leaving any trace behind, until now - 25 years later.
When trying to find the answer to their disappearance, she somehow stirred up more shit than she would have imagined...
The story managed to hold the secret until the last few chapters. I was so tempted to flip to the last page to find the answer. When reading half way, I thought it was something like Panic (http://www.thesuzette.com/2008/10/panic-jeff-abbott/) or Thr3e (http://www.thesuzette.com/2008/01/thr3e-by-ted-dekker/). But soon, realized it is none of these. (I would be disappointed if it is!)
Turned out, the answer is pretty ordinary, but logical and explains everything. I like this book very much although the ending is rather weak. Nevetheless, the entertainment that it brought was great!
