I am not sure where the name "Parentonomics" comes from - I get the reference to "Freakonomics" but here we have much less economics. The author states that this is a compilation that he uses as a examples for his classroom. The problem is that while many of the stories are humorous they really don't demonstrate much about economics or parenting.     A nice example is the chapter on sleeping. I am a new father, and I dabble in the reading of economics (most Mises, Hayek, and Friedman--Milton, not Thomas). So I was excited to read Parentonomics by Joshua Gans.    Unfortunately, the book sucked that enthusiasm right out of me.
