Married to a man she dispises, Manon Gaudet is a miserable woman. She is forced to live in close proximity to her husband's mistress mistress and illegitemate children. She watches her husband beat and torture his slaves. Manon is trapped. She is the property of her husband. Manon's property, a slave Sarah who was a wedding gift from an Aunt, is also the property of her husband. When Manon suddenly finds herself free of her husband, will she allow Sarah the same freedom or will she continue the cycle of misery?

Property is a well written and thought provoking book. Set in an unfortunate time in history, this story does not romanticize or sugar coat the challenges faced by women of any race.

I couldn't put this book down and highly recommend it.
