St. John chronicles one season of the University of Alabama Crimson Tide football season through the eyes of the RV crowd. Essentially, St. John is exploring fan-mania and what it means to be a fan. His account is surprisingly humerous as we watch some of the most exciting and the most depressing moments in recent Alabama football history (beating Florida at Florida and losing to Louisiana Tech).
Along the way St. John meets ticket brokers (scalpers), booster club members, student fans, and fellow RV-ers. St. John slides into the fan-persona with ease and makes me wish that I was traveling with him because he seemed to have such a great time meeting all these interesting people.
This is a must-read for Crimson Tide fans and a highly recommended read for college football fans. There are some interesting observations about athletic politics and higher education as well. I imagine that this book is not for everyone but I believe that most everyone would enjoy it. Roll Tide!
