The shocking murder of a suburban family uncovers a frightening global conspiracy in this new thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of Don't Look Twice. . . . "I think this book is fantastic. It's Andrew Gross's best yet . . . an automatic must read for lovers of fast, topical, can't-put-it-down thrillers."--Lee Child The calm of affluent Greenwich, CT, is rattled by news of a heartbreaking triple murder. A successful trader at one of Wall Street's most prestigious firms has been killed, along with his wife and teenage daughter, in an apparent home-burglary gone terribly wrong. Ty Hauck, who has recently traded in his badge for a new life as a partner in an international security firm, is shaken by the news. He knew the wife years ago, at a vulnerable time in his life, and her memory lures him back--against his own best interests--to the life he has just left behind. He digs into troubling questions; questions about the sudden collapse of the dead trader's "too big to fail" firm. About that firm's connections to Hauck's own security company that his new boss wants to keep buried. About the motives of the local police department he has just left behind. Pushed on by the memory of his murdered friend, Hauck teams up with a tenacious government agent and uncovers a scheme aimed at the collapse of the global financial markets that gives new meaning to the word "meltdown." Played out against today's "worst-case" scenarios, Reckless races from Greenwich to London, the Balkans and Washington, D.C., to the highest levels of government and to the most private moments of personal despair. It is a pandemic of conspiracy and deceit that builds to a nerve-rattling final showdown, proving that for Hauck, the private sector carries even more danger--and has far more chilling consequences--than wearing a badge ever did.
