When Alma and husband Harold's tumultuous relationship ends with the sudden death of Harold, it leaves Alma full of guilt and regret. So much so that she thinks that there can only be one solution.....to take her own life. But when a group of willful and young-at-heart women wearing red hats intervene, life as Alma has known it changes forever. Immediately she is "saddled" with a group of generous, thoughtful, and supportive friends....something that she is completely unfamiliar with. Initially the efforts of the women are greeted with suspicion by Alma; but eventually she comes to realize that sometimes people are just kind....when there is nothing in it for them at all. And although Alma feels as though she owes the Red Hats her very life, she soon comes to realize that she has brought something equally valuable to their friendships; and when she meets the man of her dreams and is presented with an opportunity to right the wrongs of her past, Alma becomes the woman that everyone but she knew that she was capable of being. A fast, fun read.
