Reversing Chronic Disease looks at the potential relationship between chronic pain and fatigue such as that experienced by Fibromyalgia sufferers and chemical or hormonal imbalances. To support these connections, the author looks at a wide variety of issues such as hormonal imbalances, adrenal failure, thyroid dysfunction, depression, and even ADHD. In many of these cases, key symptoms (pain, fatigue, brain fog, sensitivities, etc) are shared. Moreover, after medicating, symptoms are often reduced.

To me, it would seem that the author is trying to suggest that often chemical and hormonal imbalances are misdiagnosed as Fibromyalgia. That may or may not be the case for many people. However, I introduce the thought that this might be a chicken and egg quandary. It could just as easily be that whatever causes Fibromyalgia creates increases stress and sensitivity of the system and therefore normal functions. In this way, fibro fog looks like inattention to detail associated with ADHD because both happen to affect the same parts of the brain. Rather like comparing a broken leg with the mobility issues associated with Fibromyalgia muscle weakness and fatigue. Yes, in both cases, the legs are the problem area and mobility is the primary concern. Yes, perhaps the same drugs or treatment could mask the pain symptoms and alleviate stress but would they actually cure the root cause?
