This is a terrifying tale of a woman who is in a fourteen-year marriage to an extremely abusive and sadistic husband.  Rose, the main character, finally gets up the courage to leave him, and escapes to another city to start her new life.  Her husband, a cop, goes off on a wild rampage to find her, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake.  He just wants to “talk to her up close”.  The story that follows takes the reader on a wild ride as Rose finds an uncommon way …

Not one of King's greatest, yet it has its own particular creepiness that merits its reading. A treatise against spousal abuse, an amazingly sensitive portrayal of abused and abuser, getting into their heads with agility and even sympathy. Disturbing, especially if you have experienced such abuse.
