As I began to read this book, I was reminded of a lecture -- "Acres of Diamonds" -- that an American Baptist minister, orator, philanthropist, lawyer, and writer delivered more than 6,000 times. Russell Herman Conwell explained to each audience that "acres of diamonds are to be found in this city, and you are to find them. Many have found them. And what man has done, man can do. Lynda Resnick is an interesting person with an interesting history in marketing. Her book tells us about that history, with some remarks about modern marketing thrown in.    The remarks in question are put into little boxes to make them seem important, but they really aren't. "By making the world smaller," one runs, "the Internet is also reinforcing a certain level of small-town business mores." That's true, of course, and I think we mostly know that. When I ordered "Rubies in the Orchard" by Lynda Resnick with Francis Wilkinson, I really didn't know what to expect. The tag line "How to Uncover the Hidden Gems in Your Business" and "The POM Queen's Secrets To Marketing Just About Anything" sold me on the book, even though I do not like the cover at all. In fact, I really dislike the cover a lot. I would think someone who has marketed the successful products that Resnick has would have had some input in the design of the cover and could have come …

Lynda Resnick has a lot of experience with marketing phenomena through the companies she has been involved with. I learned a lot here about the POMegranate history as well as her endeavours with companies like TeleFlora, Franklin Mint, and Fiji Water. The core message is about having a product or service that you appreciate the value of and getting that sense of value into the mind of the public/consumers. Believe in what you are selling or promoting and that will carry into your bringing your product …
