Save Karyn.... One Shopaholic's Journey to Debt and Back

  • Jul 15, 2010
While at the local book store where I can find discounted books, one book that immediately caught my eye was entitled, “Save Karyn... One Shopaholic’s Journey to Debt and Back”.  Although it was merely a fictional story, I wanted to know her secret because I could relate!  While briefly reading, I felt this character was quite like me!  Awesome!  And I completely understood her position and how she got herself into debt.  The question was, how to get yourself out and back on your feet?  I wanted to hear her story!

She begins telling her story about moving from one job to another, and moving from Chicago to New York City…. and how her expenses seem to follow and accumulate but with always the hope of the next paycheck to help pay the bills.  Totally understandable!  The author creates a character that is extremely funny and so easily relatable.   I found myself within this character as well but I also found this book a complete joy to read.

Eventually, her plan is to set up an internet website in which she asks people to donate if they can to help her out of debt.  What a brilliant idea!  Now how do I set up a website like hers?!!  Hmmmm…
She begins to receive many emails from all over the world who understand her situation, and of course, some who don’t but either way, it turns out to be a success all the way around, and she also ends up selling many of her precious possessions that she had originally bought and now is selling on Ebay as well to help pay off her debt.   It is an awesome read.  Check it out!

Caught this on Lunch's Facebook fan page.  Nice!  Sounds like I need to get this book for my shopaholic friend.  This is a fictional book?  It was probably based on a real life story of one woman who actually did this then.  Thanks for sharing, Ruth! :)

This reminds me of Confessions of a Shopaholic a bit! Interesting! This would be a great addition to the Cafe Libri community (for all things book related).
