Harsh reality in the Slums of Bombay

I consider this to be an epic novel about life in the slum communities of Bombay (Mumbai).  In this true life story, the author becomes immersed in the underworld community, and experiences the same problems and joy as all of residents.  He's a fugitive from Australia, but also becomes a fugitive in many ways here as well.  There is passion and intrigue along the way.  Each of the 900+ pages is intense and dramatic.

I actually bought my copy of the book from a black market vendor on the streets of Bombay.  I will cherish my crappy copy, with it's misprinted and extra pages, for as long as I can read......
