1 review about Shelter

"The deepest need of men is not food or clothing and shelter, important as they are. It is God."l

Harlan Coban changes his usual genre and produces an entertaining YA novel with "Shelter."

Fifteen-year-old Mickey Bolivar is having a rough period. He witnesses his father's death in a car accident and sees his mother in a rehab clinic as she is unable to cope with her husband's loss.

Micky is sent to live with his Uncle Myron. In the orientation for his high school, he meets Ashley Kent. They become friends and he considers her his girlfriend. When school opens, she has disappeared. Since Mickey has suffered the other losses to people close to him, he doesn't want to have another person he cares for disappear so he investigates her disappearance.

He's assisted by two outcasts from his high school. There is Spoon, the nerdy son of a janitor and Ema, a heavy goth who wears black clothing, has shoe polish black hair, tattoos and a charming personality that makes the reader curious about her.

Mickey is the full package as a character. He's six four, knows martial arts and has compassion for those picked on without cause.

Between Mickey and his friends, Harlan Coben has written another interesting story with wit, humor, plot twists and interesting characters.

Mickey Bolivar should take his place as one of the unique and popular characters in YA fiction.
