I Found a Few Recipes I'll Use...

Interestingly I got SB in the Kitch and Hungry Girl cookbooks on the same cookbook search. What Hungry Girl does with additives and low-fat, lower sugar highly processed foods, SB in the Kitch does with Vegan and natural foods. Taking the bad foods we all love to eat, SB in the Kitch adds healthier ingredients and subtracts high-fat, high-processed, high-calorie and low-nutrition ingredients to make the food taste as close to the original as possible. None of the recipes have nutrition details. I found a few I'll use and will keep on hand which make the purchase price okay in my book, but not as many as I'd like. International dishes, breakfast, lunch, dinner and desserts are covered. Italian foods get their own chapter and a helpful glossary of terms and unfamiliar items is included.

Bohemianliving. I found three unique recipes that are different than what I've already discovered. The Bitchtastic Brownies made with tofu are kick in the face good. If you love brownies and the gooeier fudge type vs cake and you like the idea of a few healthy ingredients tossed into a usually bad choice. I'd recommend them. I did cut back further on the sugar and the oil. I'm going to post my modified version on my blog and I'll post the link when I do. Otherwise they had some tofu "feta" and marinated blocks that looked good. Otherwise most of their recipes were basics cleaned up and veganized. I would recommend the book World's Healthiest foods to you. His website is. http://whfoods.org/ you can get a free daily recipe and weekly newsletter with some great ideas. Emily. The link below to World's Healthiest foods would be good for you, too. He does a lot of skinny saute with low salt, low fat broths rather than cooking with oils/fats. And here's another one that is a good starter website. http://www.eatbetteramerica.com/ Most of the recipes I've found I still tweak a little. I have the need to see if I can't make it just a bit tastier while adding or taking away.

I'vce recently started doing a lot more cooking. I think almost everything I try involves butter or fat in some way. It would be great to do things healthier!

What were some of your favorite recipes- I have recently recommitted to a vegetarian diet and would love to know how to add variety!

This was my first SB visit so I can't tell you how they compare. The attitude was spicy and amusing, for sure. In Kitch they really don't go to far out as far as unique recipes. Most are redone by adding vegan.

I've heard some mixed things about Skinny Bitch. Does "In the Kitch" improve on the first book?

I agree, Roberto. Proceed with caution when messing with recipes. Many can benefit from some tweaks and be delish, though. Moderation in most things is wise advice.

I think that you can ruin a recipe by cutting the fat or calories. Use butter, cream, sugar-just eat smaller portions. Enjoy cream of mushroom soup, not milk of mushroom soup-have a cup, not a bowl. drink more water.
