Hilarious, touching, sad, and one of the best books I've ever read.

Especially for anyone who grew up in New York, this book is essential reading. This memoir by Laura Cunningham, who is also an accomplished playwright, covers the time from just before her mother's death through her pre-teen years. Cunningham was raised by her mother's brothers and allowed to do pretty much anything including paint the kitchen pink. It's one of those books where every sentence could stand alone.
