After having read a few reviews on 'Song of Susannah', it seems that this is a text that is either loved or loathed. While I do agree that the most controversial decision Stephen King makes in the new DT books does detract from them (I will not say what that writing choice is as I do not want to spoil this for readers), I found this book to easily be the most enjoyable of the 3 'new' Dark Tower books. Hefting this book, it appears to be a real "doorstopper", but that's an illusion. The text is only a bit over 400 pages, but the type face is large, and the paper is very thick, making it appear to be more book than it really is. I don't know where to place the blame for that, but it appears to be a marketing ploy to justify the $30 price tag, simply by bulk. If you thought that the previous five Dark Tower books were departures for King, just wait until you read this one. At some point around the 11th Stanza ("The Writer"), "Song of Susannah" is, like the song says, guaranteed to blow your mind.Picking up right where "Wolves of the Calla" left off, our heroes Roland, Eddie, Jake, and the relative newcomer Father Callahan prepare for yet another sojourn out of Roland's world and into ours.
