Harry Dresden is a hapless, down on his luck wizard. In fact, he's the only licensed wizard in the Chicago phone book. Business isn't exactly brisk so from time to time he acts as a consultant with the Chicago Police Department when the cases drift out of the mundane and into the realm of the paranormal. Clever modernization of the "hard-boiled gumshoe" character, epitomized by Sam Spade, Philip Marlowe, and Archie Goodwin... with the addition of wizardry! It's an oddly addictive combination that has resulted in a great many equally enjoyable sequels. The A&E series is very good (in my opinion); the books are a little darker, not quite as flashy. Excellent reading, even so!

Quirky series, great pop culture references, overall a good read!

The weakest of the Dresden Files books, but a good start for the following stories.
