Warning...this book promotes cuddling, spending time with your kids, and listening to their needs.

I know that seems logical when you have a child but in today's society there are so many experts telling people how not to "spoil" their child and how to let them cry it out or make them more independent.

This book encourages attachment parenting which includes "1. Connect with your baby early, 2. Read and respond to your baby's cues, 3. Breastfeed your baby, 4. Wear your baby, and 5. Share sleep with your baby". Because of this I think the book is controversial. I personally love it though.

The book doesn't just promote one type of parenting though, it lists the advantages and yet still goes into detail about other methods or parenting or ideals that do not agree with the attachment parenting philosophy. It covers bottle feeding and other ideals.

I find the book to be very informative. It covers different developmental stages to help you cope with your growing child. It also covers giving birth, preparing for your baby and postpartum adjustments for mom and family. It also covers caring for the newborn and common problems and concerns. The book goes in depth to help you with problems from nutrition, breast and bottlefeeding, nighttime parenting, and fussy babies. I especially found the section on fussy babies to be helpful. It went into some reasons for fussiness and it turned out my daughters was a medical reason (GERD). I also found since I had such a fussy child the section on slings to be very helpful, it went over everything from comparing slings to other carriers, choosing a sling, and different positions and use of a sling. I mean I can keep going on and on, this book basically covers, like the covers says, "Everything you need to know about your baby-birth to age two". It even goes into toilet training, discipline, returning to work, baby proofing, first aid, etc.

In my opinion the advice, developmental information and all the other information make this a must have staple for any parents library and a great baby gift idea for new parents. The authors Dr. William Sears and his wife nurse Martha Sears are not just authors, they write from experiance, both working in pediatrics and being the parents (practicing what they preach) of eight children.
