Where so many books about dogs end up with the dog dead and its master merely changed by the experience, The Call of the Wild reverses the trend and thus reveals a much deeper impact of human nature.  Buck’s journey is reminiscent of The Heart of Darkness when the dog is stolen from his civilized and domesticated life to be bought, sold, and traded farther and farther north into the Canadian wilderness.  He is treated differently by the different men holding his leash.  His …

This book is classic. Told from the viewpoint of the dog, it seems that we are the ones that can be the animals. This book is not for the faint of heart. It is violent as nature sometimes is. A must read for everyone.

I first read excerpts of this in various English classes before I finally read the full novel. It was pretty good, but really not worth the amount of hype it gets. I don't think this is really worth going out of your way to read and it is by no means a book I wanted to read cover to cover in one sitting. I don't think I even finish it, if I recall correctly.

This book was a book we had to read in my english class. I liked this book, it was extremely realistic.. I liked how the author didnt make anything sound better than it should, but he didnt over exaggerate how horrible things were. This book is defiantly not for the faint of heart or extreme animal lovers. There are violent scenes and animal cruelty. I think the book is great and i think that even though i love animals, the book would not be as good as it is without the scenes that are not so pleasant. …

I like anything by Jack London. I enjoy reading about man versus nature and how man thinks he can win when really we are just using nature and could be gone in 100 years.
