Excellent novel. Not being Jewish, I learned something about Jewish culture and that did not hinder my enjoyment of this book, and his others, notably 'My Name Is Asher Lev'.
I can't remember how many times I've read this book but I love it every time. The characters are wonderful and engaging and have such lessons to teach. Potok makes it all seem so effortless. On this reading I was really struck by the friendship between Reuven and Danny and what forms it took, what it really meant to them.
The Chosen is a book that will, not only produce a full, rich, exhilarating experience, but stays with you for quite some time. There can be no doubt that this book, along with its author have reached the pinnacle of the literary world and achieved what few books can: Masterpiece.
