Fast paced sequel to "Max And The Gatekeeper"

  • Apr 28, 2009
James Cochrane has kept up the fast pace with his on-going adventures of Max, his Grandfather and his apparently fearless friend Cindy.

In this adventure poor Max, who has unleased the evil Hudich in the previous novel (in saving Cindy), must battle with more forces of evil, all the while trying to keep his Mother alive and trying to work out who, if anyone among his friends, is betraying him. This novel marks considerable development in Max as a young man - his adventures have forced him to grow up quickly and take on responsibilities that would not be normally thrust upon someone so young. This character development as well as the breath taking adventures makes it a wonderful gift for a child of advanced reading years or a pre-teen with an interest in magic and adventure.

A word of warning though - this novel is a sequel, and as such it will be far more enjoyable if you have read "Max and the Gatekeeper". As a stand alone book it may be a little confusing without some earlier introduction - not only to the characters and complexities of the plot, but also in how Max has developed from a surly young man sent to spend holidays with his Grandfather to the hero of this series.

All in all, it is quite enjoyable, and should guarantee you a few hours of peace if offered to a young reader :-)
