A book by Dean Koontz.

Koontz (Forever Odd) is likely to have himself another bestseller in this pulse-pounding thriller with echoes of Hitchcock and Cornell Woolrich. One morning, Southern California gardener Mitchell Rafferty gets a call on his cellphone from a stranger … see full wiki

Mitchell Rafferty's happy living a middle-class life. He owns his own landscaping company and is deeply in love with his wife Holly. Mitch is somewhat amazed everything seems so normal for him, considering the way he and his four siblings were raised by his nontraditional parents. But his world tilts off balance with one phone call, the man on the other end of the line telling him he has his wife and she will be killed unless Mitch can raise two million dollars within 70 hours. Mitch knows he can't …

I have always enjoyed his mix of suspense and a type of science fiction or fantasy for a good suspension-of-reality sort of read, and so I promptly read novel after novel end to end. I had been on a bit of a Koontz break (for many years). This was a wonderful book to pick up after all that time. It was a great page-turning read. There was no sex and very little bad language. There was some violence, as befits the genre, but it was not gory (save one brain-splattering scene).    Other …

I still find it interesting to watch Dean Koontz shift from being a supernatural horror novelist to more of a mainstream writer. His latest, The Husband, has no real supernatural element to it at all. Doesn't really matter, however... It's still an enjoyable read.    Mitch Rafferty is a landscaper whose life changes with a single phone call. While out on a job, he gets a call from someone who has kidnapped his wife and wants two million dollars in little more than two days. Obviously, …

I've been a fan of Koontz (he used to be known as Dean R. Koontz) since a classmate gave me a set of paperbacks for a Christmas gift exchange back in 1988. She said 'If you like Stephen King, you'll LOVE Koontz. Trust me."    Of course, she was right. Even the worst of Koontz blows away the best of King.    But I digress.    I've been a bit disappointed with the last few Koontz novels. Mostly, it's been Koontz's obsession with describing …

I finally got ahold of "The Husband" and was excited to read it. Since it came out I had so many scenarios running through my mind on what the main character might possibly do to gather 2 million dollars. The story really grabs ahold of you in many places, and I could not stop reading at various points throughout the book; however, the content of the book and the actions of the main character were not what I was expecting. I do not mean that I was blown away by the actions because they were so startling, …

This was my first Koontz book and I'm happy to say that I really enjoyed this one. I had to get used to his way of writing and his pace of suspense, description, and action. Once I did that I really got into this book.    The premise caught my interest and there was something about the cover as well. I loved how authors take you down a road and then abruptly swing the plot in a direction that you NEVER see coming! Koontz does this with Anson and I had to re-read that entire chapter …

Every page or two there's another totally unexpected surprise. Dean Koontz is, simply put, the master of his very own genre. It's horror; it's suspense; it's mystery; it's superlative.     Mitchell Rafferty appears to be a simple man, a gardener who loves his work, loves his wife of several months and is trying to build his little business. It's Monday, May 14, 11:43 a.m. and three weeks short of hais 28th birthday.     His cell phone rings - and his life …
