It is a fact of human nature that oddballs will gravitate to any area and the law is no exception. Despite all the jokes and deprecation of lawyers, they are in fact human and subject to the same failings and occasional irrationalities of the general population. Fortunately, the law is generally self-adjusting, so most of the errors will eventually be corrected. Unfortunately, in some cases, such as Plessy v. Do you want to know about your legal options if you buy an haunted house? What about cases involving people in chicken costumes? Rights of free speech for chickens? Halfway through this collection of anecdotes and stories, I was almost inclined to consign it to the literary dustbin known as the "bathroom readers". But then I came across a chapter that actually explained (at a very high level) a slightly nuanced category of law. Further along, I read about "sentencing consultants", professionals who for a fee help structure a convicted perp's profile in such a way as to have them serve their time in a minimum security Club Fed-type prison instead of something …

You ever wanted to read an entire book that's written by, and like, "USA Today"? If so, this is pretty the book for you. It's about lawyers, the law and the like, and it's told in a fairly easy-going, somewhat entertaining style. I didn't really learn too terribly much, but I enjoyed it. It was fun learning about some of the quirks of the law, as well as learning about the judge (actually a Supreme Court Justice), mentioned in the title.    As for the "USA Today" angle, yeah, …
