"Killing me softly with each word." Song lyrics

Once again, John Connolly gives his readers a unique and frightening story.

A construction crew unearths an unmarked cemetery in the upper regions of Maine.

In that area there had been a sheltered religious community for a number of years. Then, members of the community weren't seen or heard from. It was assumed that they had relocated.  The bodies that were uncovered, showed that they were the victims of homicide.

PI Charlie Parker is hired to look into the death of Grace Peltier, a college student doing her thesis on religious groups in upper Maine. The Aroostook Baptists history fascinated her. She had been to the offices of another religious group, the Fellowship but then soon after, was found dead in her car. It was believed to be a suicide.

Charlie searches for the history of both religious groups and comes into contact with a Mr. Pudd, a spider lover and enforcer of the Fellowship. The story continues to move along nicely as we learn of the philosophy of the original religious group and their unrelenting leader, Rev. Faulkner.

The story is original and Parker is a character who the reader can appreciate for his courage and determination to find answers. One of his friends says that he represents the dead as well as the living.

The readers will enjoy the story and it will be stored in their memories on those dark and stormy nights...perfect for Halloween.

Just re-read this thriller for a second time and enjoyed it just as much as the first time. It was fun imagining what was to come in the action.
