  Alicia Silverstone's Vegan/kindness tome went with us on a recent road trip. The passengers in the car passed it around and read up on some of what Alicia had to say. She gives great information on how and why to go Vegan. She shares delicious recipes. Her peanut butter cups and Rustic Pasta are amazing, and many pages in our copy of The Kind Diet have become stained and/or dogeared in the months since the road trip.    Alicia's voice is friendly girl-next-doorsy …

Pros: well written, great ideas      Cons: becomes political and obnoxious      The Bottom Line: This starts out as a great book with good concepts and excellent background but quickly becomes a political message.      My fiance and I are very healthy people.  We workout virtually every day, we go running on a regular basis, and we really try our best to eat as healthy as possible as well.  This doesn't mean that we are crazy …

'The Kind Diet' reminded me a lot of the books 'Skinny Bitch' and 'Skinny Bastard'. All of these books make a case for why you should go vegetarian. Unlike the 'Skinny...' books, 'Kind Diet' takes a far less confrontational approach with a rather friendly, casual banter. 'The Kind Diet' is really two books in one; the first (approx.) 140 pages is a straight-forward description of how Alicia Silverstone has gone about losing weight, keeping it off, and lifestyle changes. I loved this book! Over the years I have been weaning myself off meat, trying to eat less of it, not because I didn't like the taste, because my deep love for animals has naturally led me that way. When I stop and really think about it, I really don't enjoy thinking that I'm eating something that had a face, a life and personality but drastic changes like that don't happen overnight, to me this is simply a tool and guide to try and eat little better. I am not a vegan/vegetarian, as I do eat meat (free range, organic) and dairy sparingly. However, I do eat lots of vegan and vegetarian foods and am always on the lookout for good recipes.    The Kind Diet: A Simple Guide to Feeling Great, Losing Weight, and Saving the Planet, by Alicia Silverstone, is filled with many great looking recipes.
