The Lovely Bones is a haunting tale told colorfully, and if you can suspend your disbelief in the afterlife scenes, not so bad. If you have voyeurism issues, probably not the book for you.

This book was given to me by my aunt because she always has believed that young woman should be informed and open to the ideas of real life. After reading Alice Sebold's "Lucky" I gained an even deeper understanding and respect for this book. The imagery is artistic but doesn't take away from the core story that a young, innocent and hopeful girl is raped and murdered, taking her to a place where she watches her family deal with their grief and is torn about whether she should …

An okay read, not your typical murder story.

I loved this book. I picked it up and just couldn't put it down once I did. The amount of emotion that's there is just a really hard thing to ignore while you're reading. This was a truly lovely book and I can't wait to read other books by Sebold.

Colorful way to explain death and no closure when you die unexpectedly.  YOu have to have a pretty good imagination to enjoy the story.  I was pleased with the imageries written by the author.  Original idea about someone who wants peace for her family and watching all the events from heaven.  I can't imagine what it's like to see your family in pain after an unexpected violent death...

you wouldn't normally find me reading something atop the ny times bestseller list... but this wasn't the worst! a touch saccharine... but hey! at least it's not dan brown!

kind of depressing

Horrificly overrated- as much as I wanted to enjoy, the ending dissolved into silliness.

I read this long before there was a movie prospect, and can attest to its power. Truly a deep perspective and a great read.

It's certainly well written, but I found the plot rather distressing.

The Lovely Bones
I have had this book on my shelf for years. I am not sure why I did not pick it up before now except for no time to read and when I did find those few precious moments, I always seemed another book ended up in my hands. With the release of the movie, the urging of my daughter and the extra reading time, I was able to give this book some attention. I was not disappointed.  The narrator is Susie Salmon speaking as she wanders around heaven looking down upon her family, friends and her murderer. …

I'm still not sure how I felt about this book, but the fact that I'm still thinking about it and trying to decide has got to mean something.

An excellent work of modern literature that examines the viewpoint of a deceased teenage girl and the viewpoints of those she left behind.

This was third time reading this book. Once on my own and twice now for a book club. I remember really liking it the first time I read it, but perhaps because it does tend to drag on a bit in the middle, the last two times haven't been as enjoyable. The writing is really outstanding this book, the author brings you along for the story. It feels like she's not telling you the story, but letting the story tell itself.    As I mentioned, the middle of the book drags a bit, the story …
