Barbara a young recently widowed mother life is turned upside down when her young daughter Angela is taken away from her preschool class by a well dressed stranger. Her sudden disappearance and apparent death leaves Barbara alone and her life in disarray. Years later, she's a successful authors agent and is negotiating a big book deal for one of her clients when the office phone rings. On the other end is a young woman who claims to be her dead daughter Angela. But is this really her daughter? Could this be just another prankster or charlatan who wants to pull a scam on her? If this is her child where has she been for the past nine years and who was responsible for her disappearance?

An awesome read that once you pick up you'll never want to put it down. This has to be Ramsey Campbell's best work (well, in my opinion any way). I really enjoyed the characters and the writing is very good for a horror novel. You feel for Barbara who lost her only child and would do anything to get her back. The mystery of her vanishing act is a real mind bender that will leave you scratching your head along with Barbara as she desperately follows any and whatever leads no matter how cold they are to look at why and how she disappeared. Will she find out the horrific truth about this mysterious cult called the Nameless who may have had something to do with her disappearance or will Barbara become just another victim?

The Nameless was adapted into a film (Los Sin Nombre) by Jaume Balaguero back in 1999. He changed most of the storyline but kept the basic plot and premise. Whilst the novel delves into the supernatural at times. the film, sticks to a more realistic nature making it even more creepier and horrific than the original source material. But don't let that stop you from reading it because it's a real good book and I highly recommended it.

I think you should have finished your review referring to the disappearance as a real 'mind bender', there was no need to involve the reader further, as you tend to give away details that the reader should find out for themselves. It would have been helpful to tell us it was a horror story from the start though.

I didn't give away anything crucial away. The disappearance of the girl sets up the novel for a lot of strange and bizarre events that would occur later on the book. I just gave the little information that was written on the book's jacket cover.
