Is there anywhere in the world a more maligned, distorted, scapegoated, vilified, or simply misunderstood concept than that of the free market? It has done so much (certainly more than any and all governments) to feed the hungry, clothe the needy, promote the arts, sciences, and industry, prevent conflict, and build community. The only portion of this book that makes any sense (and that by indirection) is the denunciation of the baleful effects of the IMF and World Bank on underdeveloped economies. That's because it's the only empirically supported portion; the rest is pure dogmatic pronouncement. The dismal pseudo-science has not yet recovered from Milt Friedman, but I can assure you MF personally would not have condoned "pop economics" without the math, the reasoning, the models, etc.
