This booklet gives you a summary of the life of Horace. A. W. Tabor, but is not deep enough for you to learn much about the man. Tabor's story is that of the expansionist western United States, one of rags to riches and back to rags again. Tabor and his first wife arrived in Colorado in 1859 in a covered wagon; Mrs. Tabor was the white woman in the gold mining area of California Gulch. The Tabor's grew very rich and Mr. Tabor became a very politically powerful man. However, their marriage was an unhappy one and there was a very expensive divorce. Horace remarried and then fell on hard times, dying almost penniless. Tabor's life was one that was similar to many people in the western United States as it was being settled, fortunes were won and lost on a regular basis. Unlike some of the others, Tabor was a civic-minded individual; he was the driving force behind the construction of the Tabor Opera House in Denver. This booklet gives you only a brief glimpse into his life and is very disjointed in that presentation.
