Former Secret Service Agents Sean King and Michelle Maxwell are hired by defense attorney Ted Bergin to help with the defense of Edgar Roy. They become up to their necks in a rivalry of informational gathering programs of the government. Roy is accused of being a serial killer.

On their way to meet Bergin they discover that he's been murdered and wonder how someone killed him on a lonely road where he would normally not have pulled off the highway.

It seems as if eveyone thinks Roy is guilty. The bodies were found outside of his barn and he had a shovel in his hand when police arrived.

Sean and Michelle meet a State Police officer who tells them that all info on Roy is turned over to the FBI who will be taking over the case.

In this well paced thriller, it tries to pove one man's innocence against seemingly insurmountable odds. There is an intelligence program that wants to find a man with a six rating. He would be able to analyze intelligence from all over the world, put it together and sell his findings to the government.

David Baldacci does a fine job in keeping the reader guessing as to the actio, while wishing for Sean and Michelle to be successful in their job. What do these intelligence agencies want with Edgar Roy and how will Sean and Michelle get the information to defend him when it seems they are going up against the U.S. government, itself.

Excellent read that will keep the reader's interest.
