The presentation is an easy to read rendition containing
much of the business documentation associated with small
business start-ups. For instance, the author relates a
number of tasks that are conditions precedent to starting
a business from scratch. i.e.

o Entity creation and identification
o Central Contractor Registration
o Data Universal Numbering System
o Small Business Classification
o Licensing
o USA citizenship

A prospective business owner needs a mindset or
state-of-mind to open a new business with vision,
drive, an opportunity seizing orientation and timeliness
for the new idea. Following these steps, the entrepreneur
needs to address credit/financing, cash-flow, capital,
capacity, collateral, commitment and personal trust.

A myriad of programs exist to help the private entrepreneur;
namely, the SBA Loan Program, SBA Express (maximum $350T ),
Microloans ($35K), Export Express ($250K) and others.
Sometimes, foreign investors can be a good source of capital
if their intention is to penetrate a new market.

A competitive proposal requires many items to move the lending
request forward; namely, a business plan, description,
objectives, product, competition, market plan, operating plan,
personal and professional management, goals, the financial
statements and other business documentation.

Some of these steps can be consolidated if the small
business owner/entrepreneur attaches to an existing successful
product as "an affiliate". There are other sources of lending;
such as , "peer to peer lending".

At times, the community itself can be the moving force
behind an idea through the identification of a specific/chronic
need. Examples would be major food outlets where only smaller
stores exist. Organic food stores are in great demand for
healthy-conscious consumers, gymnasts, professional athletes,
the elderly and a wide constituency of people too numerous to
list in a finite review.

In my own experience, the people who actually live in a
community are most conversant with the needs, opportunities,
pitfalls and strategic constituencies needed to move a
small business from the concept stage to varying stages
of implementation.

The work has an excellent roster of helpful websites;
and many others. The acquisition of this book would be
extremely helpful for anyone starting a new business for
the first time. The presentation reviews key milestones
in the process together with the mindset needed by
entrepreneurs to move the process forward.

There is such a thing as "analysis paralysis" ; wherein,
so much time is spent in analysis that the project fades
due to a lack of action or initiation. Good opportunities
do not always remain open for the taking.
