Action and adventure in revolutionary France

When I first began this book I wasn't sure if I was going to like it because the first several pages contained a lot of nautical terms and I'm not very conversive with them. The story picks up very quickly, however, and turns into a great read!

The hero, a young English sea oficer, gets involved in smuggling items into France during the Terror, and everything in the plot stems from that action. There are many historical characters scattered throughout the book, such as Danton and Robespierre, and the background of the Terror appears quite authentic.

There are many dire situation in which our hero finds himself, and a love story of sorts intermingled. The action gets very fast and furious, and the reader is in a constant state of interest to find out what is going to happen next.

The story ends on a somewhat ambiguous note concerning the love story, but I understand that this is the first book of a trilogy, so I hope that the future volumes provide an answer to this question.
