It's been quite a few years since I read "The Vampire Lestat." While it definitely expanded on Lestat's life, I remember it feeling sort of cheesy most of the time, especially the whole rock star angle.

Anne Rice's Brat Prince
I enjoyed this book a lot. Lestat's character is much more defined and personal than in Interview with the Vampire. You learn about his human life as well as how he delevopes into the Brat Prince of Vampires. This version of Lestat is less harsh and a bit more vulnerable.    This book follows Lestat from France, where he was changed, to Rome, Africa and finally New Orleans. It tells the story of other vampires that shaped his life and how they influenced …

great read if you like vampire stories a little bit more complex than the Twilight series

If you're reading the series, read this book. If you're picking and choosing from her books, read Memnoch the Devil. And at all costs, if you're disturbed by extremely vivid gay sex scenes, avoid The Vampire Armand.

Oh my goodness! I love Lestat. Forget Edward, Lestat is captivating, sexy and mysterious. He isn't called the Brat Prince for no reason. I love this book more than all the other Vampire Chronicles.

If you prefer action to happen, this is not the book for you. It takes forever for someone to do anything.

Published 9 years after "Interview with the Vampire", this sequel tells us the story of Lestat, the villain of the first book. Opening in 1985, we read that Lestat is now a "rock and roll" star. (Note to Anne Rice: people have not said "rock and roll" for quite some time...) This seems a strange change for the brooding vampire of the first book, and it's not entirely successful to me as a reader. It may have worked better in 1985, but by now, it seems a bit unnecessary …
