Originality is always a prized quality in a novel, but sometimes you just need a predictable, unchallenging, fast-food sort of book for a hectic time. If you've never read anything by Harlan Coben before, "The Woods" is a time filler, something to while awy a few hours of flight, beach or leisure time. It is a relatively dull, highly predictable, run of the mill mystery. Those who have enjoyed Coben's other works will be disappointed.     The characters are flat, the plot ridiculous. The dust jacket flyleaf calls Coben the "modern master of the hook-and-twist". Well, that's the problem. Coben is too cute by a factor of ten. …

This is another one of those books I was eagerly awaiting from the library... The Woods by Harlan Coben. This one had me guessing the outcome until the last couple of pages, and it was definitely not what I expected....    Paul Copeland (aka "Cope") is a county prosecutor with a dark past.
