Three Cups of Tea was fine, but it paled in comparison to a similar book about a different place, Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder. Mountains tells the story of Dr. Paul Farmer who devoted his life to Haiti. Both books were amazingly inspiring, but Mountains was much better written. Why was Cups of Tea so wildly popular?

I heard raves about Three Cups of Tea but haven't myself read it. I did however read a nonfiction book on the same subject by Jeff Rasley called Bringing Progress to Paradise. It was about Rasley's efforts to bring better education and standard of living to the village people of Nepal.

I'll look for that book. It's wonderful to read about these selfless people.
