To Wrestle With Darkness is a novel that combines elements of science fiction and Christianity. Alan Jones presents the theme of religious persecution well in alternating plot lines. One plot line involves a group of young people who have special abilities. They travelling through a place called the Pit fighting demons and other creatures. Another plot line involves an inventor of sorts who is trying to escape religious persecution from a group of people called the Blue Lords. Part of the fun of reading this is reading how these two plot lines are connected. I love how Alan Jones ties these two plot lines together with the characters. Alan Jones makes readers care about the characters he presents.
The religious persecution described in this book is graphic. It will not turn any reader into a firm believer of God, but this is powerful reading. There is a chapter in the book that describes the final judgment by God that every person will go through. This is pure fiction of course, but I found this to be a very interesting chapter to read. I love the science fiction elements of this book. I love the science fiction idea of having the ability to change the state of any object to any solid, liquid or gas. I also like the idea of theme of time travel and the ability to shoot fire from a person's eyes. I found all of these science fiction elements to be simply fascinating. I had fun visualizing these things as I read this book. To Wrestle With Darkness is a book that will entertain people who believe in God. It will also entertain people who don't believe in God with the science fiction elements it contains.
