Wonderment is an excellent autobiography about the life of Nigel Hey. He is a journalist who has written about a variety of subjects. He has written about how politicians use science to achieve their goals, planetary exploration and about classifying the planets in the solar system. He has also written about health and educational trends in third world countries like Africa and Sri Lanka .These are subjects that I have never even thought about, but I would like to learn more about..He has also performed in Shakespearean theater productions and in a play about a boxer entitled The Homecoming. I enjoy writing and learning about different things. I have also performed on the stage in plays. I think in many ways the things he discusses in this book really resonates with me.

Nigel also writes about his family life. He has been married three times, but he has never regretted any of his marriages. He has finally found happiness with his current wife named Dee. Nigel inspires me not to give up on love. I struggled with finding a career in my twenties and thirties, so I can really relate to Nigel's eldest son Brian. Brian works in the health care field doing hospice work.

He begins each chapter with a quotation from a famous writer or thinker. My favorite quote is by Pearl Buck. The main idea behind this quote is that the most important faith to have is a faith in human beings. This sentiment resonates with me because I don't practice any organized religion. There is another quotation by Joseph Campbell that I like. It implores me to seek things that make me feel alive. This is something I will remember and try to do everyday. I struggled with finding a career in my twenties and thirties, so I can really relate to Nigel's eldest son Brian. Brian works in the health care field doing hospice work. I am in the process of creating my own happiness with my volunteer work with the homeless and my theater accomplishments. Finally, Nigel Hey introduces me to a word called grok. It is a word taken from the novel Stranger In A Strange Land by Robert Heinlein. It means to completely understand something or someone by observing. Learning how to grok is something that will help me become a better writer and a better person.
