Dean Koontz is a master writer and one of the best authors of suspenseful thrillers. His books generally make the best seller lists, and properly so.  This volume tells the tale of a young successful and very wealthy businessman Ryan Perry who required a heart transplant. I guess I'm the minority here, I enjoyed the book! Different from the usual prose we can expect form Koontz, more detailed and picturesque descriptions made me stumble a tiny bit but only so that I could slow down and absorb the beauty of the scenes. In the beginning we get to meet Ryan and Samantha, their day at the beach is described in a very poetic way; in my mind the pictures were like stained glass windows, richly saturated with glowing hues making the scenes stand out in my head days after …

I've been a fan of Dean Koontz from way back (mid 80's--remember when his books were attributed to Dean R. Koontz?), and bought this on impulse (even though I've been disappointed at a few of his recent books, like The Taking).    While this book was a page turner--I couldn't put it down--the ending was so unsatisfying, so...preachy...that my heart sank.    On one hand, it's a 5-star book in that it's engrossing and Koontz (as always) has a poetic flair for …
