"There's a place for us...somewhere." Song lyrics

  • Jul 7, 2012
This story begins in 1963. The Beatles release their first album. the Great Train Robbery takes place and in the normally quiet English countryside of Derbyshire, known for the Peak District National Part, a mother calls for help. Her fifteen-year-old daughter is missing.

Police mount a search but it stalls. The girl, Alison Carter, lived with her mother and step-father in the small hamlet of Scardale. The population of the hamlet was made up of about three families who were closely bound.

The investigation is led by Det. Inspector George Bennett. It's thorough but stalls. Then one of the older residents remembers an abandoned mine. Items are found but still no body. The evidence points to one person and officials must determine if there is sufficient evidence to try that person for murder.

Flash forward to 1998. Det. Inspector Bennett is retired. His son meets a young woman who wants to write a book about the events in Scardale and Alison Carter. New events come to life that will shock the reader.

This is a wonderful novel with superb plotting. The characters are believable and the book deserves the many allocates it received.
