This bowling alley was probably just as normal of a bowling alley as you find anywhere else. Through a Groupon I bought, I was expecting this place to be going off when I visited - but really, it was nothing special. It was nothing bad, either. Just...meh.
It is a tad bit more hip than your normal bowling experience. You walk in, and the lights are low and music is playing. There is a hostess that assigns you a lane and then takes your orders for shoes, which you then walk around to pick them up along with an assigned bowling ball. Sure, things are a little more polished than your typical neighborhood spot. You get a waiter that takes drink/food orders, and your bowling console is easier to use. Before you know it, you're bowling!
This place won't let you down for a great fun round of bowling.
But if you're looking for a sweet spot where you can relax with friends, enjoy the music and maybe once in a while pick up a ball and roll down an alley towards some pins. This might not be the spot....especially all the way in west Pasadena. Here are some things that might be a buzzkill.
Drinks - somewhat expensive. I felt like we were drinking at a hotel bar or something.
Tables and chairs, couches and lounge spots are limited. Lots of standing room. When we were bowling, we shared this tiny circle table between our drinks and the party right next to us. And as tiny as it was, it felt like it seriously in the way. There is a lot of space in this bowling alley, I thought they'd use it to put more lounge areas to walk back up above the bowling terrace and hang. Other than your actual lane, the tiny table, the bar type viewing area - and the bar itself, this place is just....another bowling alley.
It's HOT - I didn't drink and I didn't work up a sweat from too much bowling. But after an hour in there, I was sweating. If it's bowling with a twist, go all the way and throw some air conditioning on!
Other than that, I can't really knock on this spot on the bowling experience. It was fun, and everything I expected it to be. The prices weren't too bad, though I think it could have been better considering that I really didn't feel like I was in an upscale location.
If you're looking to enjoy a night out with friends and thinking of doing the whole bowling bar thing - this might not be the best spot. It doesn't come close to something you would expect at your normal Lucky Strike, or anything like that. If anything, it's just..regular.
