My son's preschool just began winter break last week, and I was almost out of my mind and pulled out all of my hairs out with an energetic kid out of school, the rain outside, and so close to the holidays with still many things on my to-do list…. That's when I received the e-mail message about the winter camp at The Little Gym. The 3 hour program is specifically designed with different daily themes and it is for children 3-9 years old (my son just made the cutoff age, yeah!) The curriculum is focus on gymnastics, sports skills, physical activities, arts and craft and even some book reading. They have both morning and afternoon camp, and parents have the freedom to pick from one to ten classes during the entire winter break.. Of course the more camp days you buy in a week, the less it costs per day. And our friends whose two kids regularly went there told me good things about it. My son went to Gymboree when he was a baby, but he quickly grew bored of it when he reaches around 2 years old, and we switched to My Gym as it offers a more physically demanding routine, and my son really loves it until recently (he's 3 1/2 years old now), I think it too became a little too easy for him, so we figure we'll give Little Gym a try.

The daily price was not cheap for the 3 hour program, especially for non-Little Gym members (but cheaper compare to my sanity and/or buying a wig). It usually cost $45 to become the life time member, and if I do my math correctly, with 15% coupon they offer, it actually is worth it to join the member if we sign up for 5 classes or more. Otherwise, you might want to wait until they offer the free membership on one of their open houses. The Little Gym is filled with a lot of gymnastic equipments (high-low bar, balance beans, etc.) and padded floor. The space was really big compare to the other children's gyms and the instructors are patient with the kids and knowledgeable with the use of the equipments. The first class my son went to for winter camp was with “Dinosaur Ice Age” theme, he cannot stop talk about it on the car ride home and felt asleep on sofa as soon as we get home. And he's been asking us to go to Little Gym every day now. Personally, I think 3 hours are too shorts and flies by quickly, but oh well, it's a nice break for both me and my son, and it definitely beats watching TV, and a little exercise is good for them and help them burn off the excess energy!
