"8:00-12:00PM" Season Premiere Review

Going into 24 this year, things were going to be different right off the bat and different is exactly what we got in a very spectacular long overdue season opener. For one, It is really nice to have a change of scenery as 24 now takes place in Washington D.C. Two, the show didn't open with a bus or anything else exploding, just a kidnapping (quite lite for a season opener). And to top all that, Tony Almeda is back! Just like in Sci-fi, no one is really ever dead in 24.

I think this is the first time in 24 history that so much has happened in the time span of four hours. To begin with, Tony goes from being the bad guy to being the good guy again (not unexpected) even though he admits that for three years, he really was a bad guy. Jack goes from working with the FBI to take down Tony to with the assistance of Bill and Cloe, breaking Tony out of FBI HQ. Something that I already appreciate about this season is that for the first time in 24, Jack and the gang really working outside the law (Without a "Sheppard" as Bill put it which I thought was great). They are running a mini CTU!

The subplots are great so far as well. While the new President Allison Taylor is debating whether or not to pull her forces out of Africa due to terrorist threats, her husband is trying to figure out whether or not his son killed himself or not. And since Jack and Tony are undercover with Emersons crew, there is Agent Taylors subplot of trying to regain custody of both Baur and Tony.

If I was to do a true review of a four hour premiere in detail it would take hours, but there are some key points that I really enjoyed about these episodes. First, that someone acknowledged that was the Senate was doing to Jack was wrong. I mean you would think that after all the times that the man has saved the country from devastation, that the government would let him rest in peace, but they just don't. It was nice that they had someone say it in the show. Second, I really appreciated that even though for the time being that Tony is a good guy, he admits fully that for three years, he really was involved in terrorist activities. It's nice to have a good guy who you know has been screwed over countless times, to not be perfect. I am also happy that the show had so far been more on the lighter side with less out of the ordinary predicaments and more true investigation. I really hope that this premiere sets the tone for the rest of the season.

So, 5/5 for the Season 7 premiere. Keep it up Jack!

Great Review. I was also pleased with the Season Premiere. I stopped watching every episode a few seasons back but this season has me hooked because it feels fresh and a bit different. I also agree with your comment about the sanctimonious senators. Not sure how I feel about Jenine Garafalo yet...but it seems like she is playing a replica of Chloe. Also great to see Billy Walsh from entourage in a new role.

This is another one of those shows I've always wanted to start getting hooked on. BUT! I'm actually scared... one of my friends couldn't stop watching the DVDs and almost had an anxiety attack when she thought she couldn't get a hold of the season 6 DVDs right then! Just the fact the episodes are 1 hour real time is enough to get me hooked! Hmmm, maybe after the GREs :)
