HELP! A 7-yr old saved his entire family

  • Mar 11, 2010
When I first read about Americans being charged for calling 911 @ some $48 a call or paying a minimal subscription fee each month for this particular service, I thought to myself, what the f@#%? What’s the problem with the city council? So broke to the extent that the city dwellers now not only have to pay taxes, they have to pay for a basic service like 911? Even the poorest country in the world need not pay for that call! I do not know what Americans think of it or if they even know about this, but hey, you guys better make sure you know what to do in time of emergency!
Then today, I saw this report on CNN and I thought, bravo to the family who did and the kid who’s been taught what to do! So very often, I do feel parents teach their kids all kinds of things but not the very necessity to cope in time of emergency, be it a robbery, an accident or an illness. It could happened to any parents themselves and the child will be left alone, helpless and not knowing what to do!
It is heart warming to know that some parents did their jobs in training their kids to be self sufficient and to ask for help in the right way! Listen to the story of how a 7 year old help his family from being victims to a home robbery.

Now, isn’t that something to think about? I think I'd be hysterical or so shocked I have not idea where to hide!

Will an adult even be so calm when calling 9-1-1 with armed men in the house?

In some countries, it’s not 9-1-1, do you know the number to dial?

We hardly think about emergency call, are we ready to call when there is indeed an emergency? By ready I mean can we be calm enough to provide the necessary information when asking for help (with armed men around)? I’m not so sure of that myself, what about you? And if you’ve children at home, have you done your part like this boy’s mom did? Food for thought, isn’t it?

America (including Canada & Mexico) is becoming so unsafe now that I'm beginning to hear lots of stories about armed men robbing diners at some restaurants in Toronto and also convenient stores! I can't quite imagine it but on reflection, I was in a souvenir store in Anchorage when a guy came in to rob the cashier some years ago! It was so quick I didn't even see it happened! I was browsing for postcards right that instant and he was gone in a breeze after the lady cashier handed him the cash she had. There wasn't many people in the store then (it was afterall in the middle of winter! I know, you'd want to know what I was doing in Alaska in the middle of winter, right?!) and no one really noticing what had happened. However, it give me creeps now thinking that what if he decided to rob the shoppers too!? Luckily, I was told then that he only had a knife!

Well, the police came but I had nothing for him. I didn't even knew a robbery was taking place! Apparently that was not the first one in Anchorage during those few weeks! The same guy had been robbing shops due to the low tourist season! You'd never imagine that happening in Alaska, would you?!?!?!

The trouble we have here with 911 calling is how hundreds of thousands of people abuse it for non emergency related anythings. We have people calling becasue their McDonalds hamburgers come without pickles, their neighbors annoy them, they've forgotten what time it is.... we have some incredibly stupid people in this country sometimes, and you wonder how in the world did those people survive beyound living under their parents. Same thing with the emergency room and with ambulances. Repeat offenders cripple that industry, especially calling for ambulances to use as taxis. Although we have some brilliant people in this country, we're stocked with others as well.
