The events in the last week or so have shocked, even insulted me as a taxpayer, voter and a American. This week, New York Governor, David Patterson has announced that he's placing a freeze on the 4% raises for state employees. Now mind you, these are people who live from paycheck to paycheck but let's face it 4% isn't a whole lot when you consider by the time they get done with all the standard deductions which include federal, state and local taxes-FICA (Social Security), pension and union dues.
I'm sure the politicians in Albany and the other powers that may be aren't doing without their cost of living raises and other perks that come along with the job. These often includes money given to them to be on certain committees, being delegated chairman of this and chairman of that, etc. Let's face it, cost of living raises are hardly a drop in the bucket when it comes to everything else going up such as rents, food, utilities, cost of transportation, etc. Why doesn't David Patterson take a freeze on his pay raise to help the state's deficit...yeah, like that's ever going to happen. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
S0me of these guys should try tightening up the purse strings once in awhile, they all claim to be dedicated to serving their consistuents.
